We Love Lake Harwood

Another fabulous water ski site has sprung up in the Canterbury area with the commissioning of Lake Harwood for its first tournament on 5 December. While rural Mid-Canterbury has numerous irrigation ponds dotted around the landscape, Lake Harwood on the McFadden deer farm at Carew is an exception in that it comfortably accomodates a slalom and a jump course.

The dock area is located at the Southern end and the shoreline has been constructed to keep roll-back to a minimum. The photo shows skier John Milnes contemplating his next pass from the Northern end of Lake Harwood during the Lemon Squeezer Series second round.

Welcome............
Welcome to a later than expected update for skishotz. Hopefully the festive season is, or has, treated you well and you have found a stretch of water somewhere to satisfy the urge to ski.

It's been a mixed start to the new season with the cancellation of a couple of the Lake Hood tournaments due to low entries for the regional event scheduled for 28 November and windy conditions for the Clearwater Pick and Choose that was to have been held on 12 December.

However the first two rounds of the Body Glove sponsored Lemon Squeezer Slalom Series have been held and a successful
regional three event tournament did take place in good conditions at Lake Crichton on 19/20 December.

Unfortunately we couldn't make it to the Crichton tournament but we do have some coverage of the Lake Hood and Lake Harwood rounds of the Slalom series so feel free to check out the pictorials and photo galleries.

Best wishes for the New Year. We trust you have a good one.

Cheers,

Peter and Richard

Great Start to Lemon Squeezer Series
The organisers of the Body Glove Lemon Squeezer Slalom Series couldn't have wished for a better start with good entries and great weather at the tournaments held at Lake Hood on 7 November and Lake Harwood on 5 December.

Run as C grade events with all judging from the boat the emphasis is on keeping the series a low key affair. New competitors are encouraged by getting another chance if they fail a pass and in the Mulligan Round everone gets another go. Despite the low key nature of the series both the Hood and Harwood rounds have been run very professionally and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

At the entry registration desk competitors are invited to dig into the biggest jar of "aeroplanes" you've ever seen to assist them in maintaining their energy levels, and at the end of the day a lolly scramble brings things to a close.

The third round will be held at Lake Crichton on 13 February with the final at Northbrook Waters on 13 March.

Alex King tops the results table after the first two rounds of the Lemon Squeezer Slalom Series. Alex is pictured here during the first round at Lake Hood.
